Our Story

Robert and Lillian met at a barn dance on this very farm in the summer of 1985, when Lillian's family rented the lake cabin next door. He was too shy to ask her to dance, so she asked him. Forty years, three children, and seven grandchildren later, they're standing in the same hayfield to say the words again -- this time with the whole family watching. We've gathered everyone back to the lake for a weekend of swimming, storytelling, and one very overdue second wedding.

The farm sits on the north shore of Lake Wabanaki, about 30 miles northeast of Bangor. From Route 9, turn onto Wabanaki Lake Road and follow it to the end -- look for the red mailbox and the Hartwell sign. Field parking is available for 80 cars along the orchard fence. The renewal and toasts are outdoors by the water; supper and dancing move into the Big Barn. Golf carts will shuttle anyone who'd rather not walk the hill, and the barn is accessible by ramp.
